Environment & Sustainability

Protecting the environment is natural for us who has the ocean as our neighbour.  Our industry is resource-intensive and it is up to us to make sure that we manage our business with as little negative environmental impact as possible.

  • Environment policy

    We have been working actively with the environment in roughly 30 years, both in daily small issues and major and long-term decisions.  The decisions taken over the years have resulted in a well-prepared and well-established policy, and a targeted environmental program.

    Together we have worked out a plan that we aim for every day. The CEO has the ultimate responsibility to maintain the environment policy of the hotel. The environmental policy shall act as a contract between the CEO and the staff and shall be revised once a year.

  • Environmental work in general

    We are actively working to:

    • Address environmental issues in annual reviews with our staff
    • Our staff regularly undergo environmental education
    • We primarily use partners and suppliers that can display a environmental policy and/or approved eco-labelling
    • Inform our guests on site about our work and what they can do to help

  • Our production

    Skeviks Gård, has it’s own agriculture with both organic vegetable cultivation and animals of Swedish breeds.

    On our farm you will find our own Linderöde-swines, Hedemora-hens and bees.

    This agriculture gives us local vegetables and meat that, in turn, reduces transport, and also benefit the biodiversity in the area as well as provides a healthy meat from animals that go freely throughout the year and vegetables that are organic. 

    As a bonus, it also provides incredibly tasty and nutritious food for all food lovers. Even our water is local since we have our own well. We try to reduce purchased bottled water and offer primarily our own filtered well water. Of course, we can also carbonate it for those who prefer that better.

  • Local production

    At Värmdö and throughout Stockholm's archipelago, can you find lots of food workers and growers who work small-scale. Just on Värmdö, within our own municipality, we find beer, cheeses, meat, asparagus, jams, mustard, rapeseed oil, juices and must, sparkling wine. If you go further around Mälardalen you will find additional farms and food workers we collaborate with.

    We buy locally to reduce environmental impact, but also to promote small scale and the quality of raw materials and products.

    Even our art at Skeviks Gård has it’s heart in the local area, since we have extensive cooperation with Värmdö Artists who hang out their art at our place. The art is for both viewing, but it is also possible to buy. 

  • Organic

    When we do not find raw material and food products locally, we work as far as possible with organic product, and we also keep in mind what’s in season. Among other things, our wine list has been 100% organic since 2014.

    In addition to the wine you will find many other products on our breakfast buffet that is environment friendly and organic. 

  • Water

    At Skeviks Gård we have our own well where we get water. Having our own water is a pride but also a responsibility as we must always be responsible for maintaining groundwater and maintaining high quality water standards. We have a strong cooperation with the local company Aqua Complete which provides us with the best possible water treatment system.

    Of course, we follow all laws and regulations that exist around water and our own sewers. Supervision takes place through own controls and by the municipality. We also make sure that we don’t waste water and gradually replacing the fast-blasting mixers and toilets.

  • Energy

    What we do to reduce our energy consumption:

    • We use our cosy fireplaces when it’s cold to warm our houses
    • Uses a good marine heating system that heats up large parts of our farm
    • Gradually switches to energy-saving lamps
    • Gradually ensure that external lighting becomes demand-driven
    • Gradually ensure that interior lighting becomes presence-controlled
    • Our sauna is timed

  • Chemicals

    What we do to reduce the consumption of chemicals:

    • We don’t use brominated and chlorinated flame retardants
    • Phosphate-free detergents are used
    • Allow guests to keep towels and sheets
    • Applies dry cleaning methods wherever possible
    • Use only environmentally labeled cleaning products when possible
    • Training on washing equipment is provided to our staff
    • Service on the dishwashers is carried out at least once a year

     

  • Waste

    What we do to best take care of our waste and reduce it:

    We compost biological waste or pass it on to one central composting 
    • Our hens and pigs may also eat our biological waste
    • We use the waste from our animals to fertilize the vegetables to increase the growth
    • We recycle all other waste according to the municipality's handling
    • We minimize the amount of disposable packaging
    • We avoid bottled water as much as possible and use our own good water that is filtered and carbonated
      

  • Exercise & Health

    Our environmental and sustainability work is also about ensuring that every person lives a wholesome and healthy life. 

    By this we mean:

    • Have an active and healthy lifestyle, where exercises has an important part of everyday life
    • Eat healthy and useful food that is local produced and/or organic
    • Be wise, thoughtful and restrained with the good loads of life
       such as chocolate, candy, alcohol, pastries - but also treat yourself to enjoy them 
    • Laughing, having fun, enjoying and doing things that make you happy
    • To help our fellow human beings

    At Skeviks Gård, we encourage both our guests and staffto live healthy by providing opportunities for training, fresh air and nutritional food.
